An exciting new development has been given the go ahead in Essex, which will see the creation of 62 zero…
Find out moreA multi-million-pound project to deliver 92 new homes and a retail unit in Needham Market is well underway, with the first completed homes of the scheme opening their doors to potential buyers.
Seven houses on the new Chambers Green development – built on Mid Suffolk District Council’s former office complex in the town – are now open for viewing by appointment, with an additional 25 homes due to be completed by Spring 2022.
The development is the first project to be delivered by Mid Suffolk Growth, a joint venture between Norse Group and Mid Suffolk District Council, set up to develop council-owned land into housing and other facilities for the local community.
As part of the first phase of the project, the Council’s former headquarters are being transformed into a combination of two and three bed detached and semi-detached houses, as well as one and two bed apartments and a retail unit. Ten of the homes will also be affordable housing, helping those on lower incomes.
Part of the original headquarters building is listed and its character and period features are being preserved, while the former bowling green adjacent to the site is being maintained as open space, with a community walk and benches added near an existing duck pond.
Norse Group Director, Richard Gawthorpe, said: “It is fantastic to see this significant project continue to take shape, providing quality homes with a real community feel.
“The aim of Mid Suffolk Growth is to provide a positive, local and regional contribution to the economic needs of the community, and this scheme will deliver so much for the local area.”
The Chambers Green development is part of a wider plan to build 133 new homes, a community space and walk, a new library, a café and visitor centre at nearby Needham Lake, and improved access between the lake and town.
Mid Suffolk District Council Leader, Cllr Suzie Morley, said: “We are committed to investing in our market towns and this development shows what is possible.
“Together with our partners, the local community and businesses, we can work to ensure the infrastructure and facilities are in place to ensure Needham Market can continue to grow and thrive.”
